There has been debate over some communities displaying “Holiday Trees” instead of “Christmas Trees.” This debate is silly. It is wasteful of your time, spirit, and energy.
The name is unimportant, just as in Shakespeare’s famous line of “a rose by any other name…”
Call it what you will, but the message is the same. It is merely meant as a beacon of light in the dark months of the year, a symbol that the light will return in time.
It is a symbol of the light that shines within each of us if we would only open ourselves to each other through honesty and integrity.
And what of the many-colored boxes we rush toward bankruptcy to pile beneath that tree? The Apple Store bags, the Best Buy gift cards?
The best gifts we can offer each other cannot ever be found under the tree, but between those friends and family that gather around that tree; sharing, loving, giving hope and comfort through the good times and the bad times that mark the moments of our lives as we travel together through another year.
